Writing a duplication finder has been a pet project of mine ever since my image collection became larger than 1Gb ;-). Even though the available tools were working for a collection of good pictures, most of them crashed if the collection contained one bad file. And usually there was no way to find out exactly which file caused the crash. Then MP3s came along and this collection started growing. Most MP3 duplication finders detect duplicates by file name or ID3 tag. This was not good enough for me.
